Deuteuronomy28:12 The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. NKJV

I am a fruit grower in Delano, Minnesota; we grow Strawberries, Raspberries, Apples, Pumpkins and Tomatoes. Typically there is a dry season in late July and August, but for the past three previous seasons we experienced extended rainless periods lasting up to three months of the summer. While we have a supplemental irrigation system, it is not adequate for such a long drought.

This year is different. While we have had a few “dry spells” we have been given several good soaking rains between and the difference is startling.

During the dry years I would pray and speak God’s covenant promise that He would send “rain in its season”. I was always truly thankful and sent up prayers of thanksgiving for any water we received. It's become a habit and I thank the LORD for every rain now. It’s a wonderful thing to sit here on earth and see and receive God’s blessing literally prospering the work of my hands with His rain. In our high tech world, our food still comes from the earth, and the multiplication still comes from God.

Rain is a blessing.

We had some really good thunder showers just a few hours ago, I paused just to watch it fall and consider the wisdom of God in how so much water that weighs over 8 lbs/gallon can be held high above the field and released in such a controlled manner for the benefit of our crops and our fields. A bit later I was reading a newly released book, “The Secret of Contentment” by Andre Rabe and my understanding of the blessing of the rain expanded.

Here’s a quote from his new book:

Just like the rain and snow bridge the gap between Heaven and Earth, so His Word bridges the gap between His understanding and ours. He wants to saturate our minds with His thinking; He designed our imagination as fertile soil in which His ideas would germinate and sprout. The fruit of thinking His thoughts, is living His life.

Our Creator desires to be known; our Father wants to be understood, but His desire extends even further. He longs for meaningful companionship with a being that can think on His level; a being that is able to communicate boldly and comfortably in His presence. Such a being exists … it’s the one He created in His own image and likeness … it is you.

Discovering His thoughts has always been a pleasant discovery. He surprises me time and again with His goodness. My best imaginations are always overshadowed by much better realities, when I see things from His perspective. He is better, bigger, wiser, more thorough, more involved, more loving than what we could ever have hoped for. He is exceedingly abundantly above all we could ask or imagine. He invites you right now to come and partake, to boldly come and commune with Him. There are no reasons to hesitate … just let Him surprise you with His goodness.

With every rain now, I will see His words and His will falling into my life to produce His thoughts in my thoughts and accomplish His life in mine.

What a blessing indeed!
